It's a new world out there, a 4.0 world, shining with the promise of a more flexible, more powerful, just-plain-better HTML, and there is glory (and cash) for those developers who can quickly master the new tools. This brave new world has spawned a new crop of HTML books, and
HTML 4.0 (No Experience Required) is a good 'un.
June 1, 1998
As the title implies, this book starts at the beginning, so even if you know nothing of HTML, it would be a good choice. However, it takes you through the intermediate stages, all the way into the arcane world of dynamic HTML, style sheets, and all the other nifty new tools that HTML 4.0 offers. HTML 4.0 (No Experience Required) is not as in-depth as the thicker (and more expensive) Mastering HTML 4.0, but even old dogs will find a few new tricks here, especially about the new stuff.
The 20 chapters address the following subjects:
HTML, the Web, and the Internet
HTML Basics
Head Section Elements
Formatting
Links
Graphics
Multimedia
Tables
Frames
Forms
Cascading Style Sheets
Applets, Active Scripts and CGI
Dynamic HTML
Designing and Promoting Web Sites
It's all here, and it's all well-organized and well-presented. HTML 4.0 (No Experience Required) is well-written, reasonably well-edited, and comprehensive. Issues of browser compatibility and sound code-writing procedures are well addressed. It is highly recommended for beginning and intermediate Web designers.
