Internet Commerce

reviewed by Charlie Morris

This is a pretty comprehensive look at Internet commerce issues. Security, credit cards, the various "e-cash" systems, scripting and marketing are all covered. Also included is a chapter on how to build a commerce-enabled site using Lotus Notes, something we've seen in no other book.
January 20, 1998
Internet Commerce, unlike some other similarly-titled books, is in fact about Internet commerce, which we define as actually conducting transactions over the Internet. Most of the relevant issues are covered here, with the exception of shopping cart packages, which are a necessary piece of the puzzle, whether you buy a package or write your own.

There is little technical detail here, and few examples of CGI or Javascript doodads. Also, as it's already a couple of years old, the book is a little dated. Like most computer books, it is badly edited and replete with grammatical errors. All things considered, however, Internet Commerce is a good book. I would rate it second only to the Web Commerce Cookbook as a comprehensive guide to Internet commerce.
