Q. "What's a multimedia then?" said the taxman.
A. "Anything you want it to be" says I.
I was asked this question when I had a discussion with a tax inspector regarding the cost of buying equipment. He took the line that any expenditure related to the business of doing multimedia was allowable but - and I quote - he said "what’s a multimedia then?". In the end, we arrived at somewhat of a compromise definition. That is to say, multimedia is anything containing a computer or connectable directly or indirectly to a computer. I thought, on the whole, that was a pretty reasonable definition and fairly inclusive of everything I would need to cover. I did not at that point say that it also included microwave ovens, Jumbo Jets, Road Traffic control infrastructure and the London Underground System.
