If you're a freelance computer writer, or just an articulate person with firsthand knowledge of Web development, please submit your article queries to The Web Developer's Journal.
The Web Developer's Journal and The Tapeless Studio
The Web Developer's Journal publishes articles on a wide variety of topics related to building and maintaining Internet sites. Much of our content comes from freelance writers, and we encourage all to submit material for consideration.
We're less interested in pro writing experience than in on-the-job
experience with the Web tools and techniques that you write about. Our
writers are not "staff writers" who research whatever subject the editor hands them. They're professionals in various Internet-related fields who write about their real-world experiences with various products and
technologies.
We're mainly interested in "how to do it" stuff about current Web development techniques and tools. Our readership consists of professional (or aspiring professional) Web developers, so articles should include plenty of nuts-and-bolts technical detail, including code excerpts and on-line examples if appropriate.
What we don't want are articles that spend the first 3 paragraphs
explaining why the Web is such a wonderful resource for building
interactive relationships...solutions...blah blah. Meat and potatoes are what we want.
Prices are negotiable. We buy exclusive online rights for 3 months, non-exclusive thereafter.
If you'd like to try writing for us, send us something. We don't need a CV or a lengthy list of your writing credits, we need articles. If you have existing articles, send them in - if we like, we'll buy. If you have a proposal for a new article, send us a brief outline or summary of the proposed article(s). If we like, we'll work out a price and make an assignment. Here's a pearl of wisdom for you: The writers who get the most work are the ones who make things easiest for editors.
Articles should be submitted by e-mail, to webmaster@WebDevelopersJournal.com. Include the text in the message, or attach it as a Word file. Please do only minimal HTML coding. You can code the paragraph breaks and sub-headings, and if your article includes code examples, make sure they're formatted properly, but leave all other formatting and layout to us. Pix are encouraged, and should be attached as GIFs or JPGs.
Before submitting, please read the following guidelines:
All product reviews must include the manufacturer's name, address, phone number (fax, e-mail, and URL if available).
All product reviews must include a list of the entire product line with prices. For example, if a software product comes in basic and "pro" versions, list the names of both clearly, with their respective prices.
All book reviews must include:
Author's Name
Number of Pages and date of Publication
Price
Publisher's full address and phone#
ISBN Number.
A short bio of the writer, with e-mail address, should be provided.
Do not indent paragraphs, but leave an extra carriage return between paragraphs.
We capitalize "Web" and "Internet."
We use a hyphen to separate clauses - not a colon or semicolon and certainly not a comma splice.
Proofread your work carefully. We do not publish material with errors, and the less time we have to spend correcting your work, the more likely we are to ask you for more.
